Laurent Miguel
Laurent Miquel To find him you have to walk through the vineyards. Walking through the vineyards you will encounter Laurent. In his element with the elements. Questioning and thoughtful, very private and a very quiet, polite man
Let's start with the country. It was not always from Laurens and his ancestors, the land has always had its roots in wine. Long ago, in 1202, the monks of Fontcaude Abbey started growing vines here. We have no idea what it tasted like then, as there is nothing left of it, but we can imagine it was good wine as the terroir lends itself to it. Then, during the revolution of 1789, the government took over and expelled the monks, causing the land to be bought by Laurent's ancestors.
Cazal Viel is where it all started. And long before they arrived. To be precise, in the year 1202. When the monks of Abbaye de Fontcaude made their wine here. Although, we've been here for a while too. Since 1789. That's eight generations and counting. When you visit you will see why.
Lauren's house
Laurent discovered Auzines quite by accident. It's located high up, at over 1,100 feet, so it's not the kind of place that's easy to find. But once he discovered it, he couldn't forget it. Situated between a mountain and a gorge it overlooks the village of Lagrasse. The locals gave him, his Irish wife Neasa and their family a warm welcome. It may be because of the wine he makes for them
Laurent is all about nature and his answer is: Wine is one of nature's great gifts. And in our opinion, the more nature plays a role in the making, the better the wine will be. That is why we stimulate the natural process. We step aside and intervene as little as possible. This applies to the vines, the soil, the water we use and even our packaging, which weighs less and uses less material than ever before. It's not just about helping the environment, but also about recognizing that nature helps us
The Languedoc is our home and we like to share it. We are a wine estate like no other in a special region. The climate, the soil, the history and the people are unique. As you will discover while tasting in our wine cellar, strolling through our vineyards or staying at one of our local addresses. If you come, we will be happy to show you around
We are a bit off the route. And not in a trendy region. But we like that just fine. Because we know all the secrets and the beauty of this place. And we hope not too many people find out and ruin it for everyone else. Come to our wine cellar and we will tell you everything. While you enjoy some of our wines. Before it becomes hip.
Laurent Miquel makes a beautiful Clacson rouge for a very affordable price. An all-rounder that goes with many cheeses and sausages. It is a beautiful combined snack platter. It is beautifully blended with Grenache, Merlot and Syrah.
The visit to the Domaine is interesting if you are in the area.
there is a viewpoint over the valley and if you go for a walk there might even be a dog walking along. There is a walk through the vineyards for tourists that you can do at your own pace and in your own way. there have even been some signs hung along the way. The walk starts at the wine cellar and ends with a nice glass of wine.
