Chateau Fargueiro
Château Fargueirol belongs to the Révoltier family, owner-growers from father to son since 1340.
The Domaine is located in the heart of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation.
The vineyard consists of 27 hectares of which 13 hectares on one of the best soils of the appellation, the alluvial terraces of the Quaternary era, also called "rolled pebbles", located around the castle, 10 hectares in clay-limestone soils of old undergrowth replanted in the 1980s/1990s, 6 hectares in Côtes du Rhône and 2 hectares in vin de pays which is currently at rest.
Our ideal location benefits from an exceptional terroir and our vines are in full maturity, giving our wines tradition and character.
They want to have the whole process of making wine insured and controlled themselves.
The work in the vineyard, in the cellar or even commercial work is not delegated in any way, only seasonal workers help during the peaks of activity (harvesting and pruning).
It is a family property rooted in the "land", in the love of craftsmanship and tradition.
They continue ancestral methods: manual and carefully sorted harvests, vinification with respect for tradition and their family knowledge while using modern techniques, because they have always valued "efficient" innovation.
We therefore offer great Châteauneufs for aging and terroir in our range, interesting to drink from a young age, but certainly suitable for years of storage.

In the 17th century, the REVOLTIERS held Fargueirol in fief. We are now with the seventh generation of winegrowers.
They had the privilege of carrying a sword, which can be seen in Château Fargueirol, because the stairs go to the left, which allowed them to defend themselves by dominating the attacker.
During the revolution they left Fargueirol to settle in Courthèzon.
Some ancestors stayed in Châteauneuf to watch over their families and exploit some good agricultural lands for their livelihood.
In 1866, phylloxera destroyed the vineyard, but the discovery of grafts subsequently made it possible to replant French vineyards, and the surviving ancestors did the same.
It was only in 1974, after the accidental death of the only son of doctor Philippe DUFAYS and in a serious wine crisis, that Joseph REVOLTIER bought Fargueirol, largely abandoned and its 10 hectares of vines neglected.
Fargueirol is the first highest point north of the vineyard, with an unobstructed view of the pebble plateau.
It would have been built on this spot to keep an eye on the attackers, especially the Protestants of the Principality of Orange.

During the restoration work on the vines, under Fargueirol, the agricultural machinery came across an underground gallery from Fargueirol in the direction of the castle. In ancient times, this underground had to make it possible to warn the castle (of châteauneuf) in case of imminent danger or to escape in case of an attack from the south.
Fargueirol has always been a strategic location because of its altitude.
Unfortunately, today only part of what Château Fargueirol used to be in the 14th century, after the revolution Fargueirol was burned and looted.
Thanks to heavy and costly renovation work, the castle, which fell into disrepair, was restored and the "vineyards" of that time also had to undergo surgical interventions (uprooting, new plantings and, above all, grafting to a large extent).
In the 1980s and 1990s too heavy reclamation work was carried out there to plant vines on limestone areas with undergrowth.
They made it possible to bring the estate to its current size of 30 ha in AOP Chateauneuf du Pape and 8 ha in AOP Côtes du Rhône and 2 ha in Igp Méditerranée.
Since 2019, the Domaine has been certified with a High Environmental Value!
The High Environmental Value (HVE) is based on environmental performance indicators that relate to the entire business operation. The certification makes it possible to certify that the elements of biodiversity (hedges, grass strips, trees, flowers, insects, etc.) are very widespread on the farm and that the pressure of agricultural practices on the environment (air, climate, water , soil, biodiversity, landscapes) is kept to a minimum.
The High Environmental Value (or HVE) certification promotes agricultural practices that respect the environment. And this at the level of the entire farm. After all, the farmer's effort relates just as much to water management as to fertilization, crop protection or the preservation of biodiversity.
So :
Agroecological elements (hedges, waterways, insects, birds, beehives, wild flora, diversity of cultivated plant species and farmed animal species) should be promoted on the farm.
The use of phytosanitary agents and fertilizers should be as low as possible.
Water resources must be managed as closely as possible.
Soil quality must be maintained by controlling the nitrogen supply as well as possible (75% of the soil is covered in autumn).
