Tempranillo
If there is a grape that Spain promotes, it must be the Tempranillo grape, but this grape is no longer only found in Spain and has already been planted in many other countries. The grape also has many clones by now. In Portugal, the grape is known as Tinta Roriz or Aragonez and is used in the assemblies of Port.
As already mentioned, the grape can no longer be found only in Spain and is also planted in the following countries
- Argentina
- United States
- Portugal
- Australia
- Chile
In a study of the Tempranillo grape it could be suggested that it has a common ancestor with the Pinot Noir Grape, although this has not been proven, the Tempranillo grape probably ended up in the Rioja by Monks who were passing through to Santiago and leave cuttings at the visited monasteries on the way through.
