AOP Pouilly - Fumé is a dry white wine Loire wine, made from Sauvignon Blanc and is one of the most respected appellations of the Loire Valley. The name consists of 2 parts: the first refers to the municipality of Pouilly-sur-Loire, while the second part refers to the local name Sauvignon Blanc , known there as Blanc Fumé. The "Fumé" is the French word for "smoky", which refers to the pronounced lighter stone aromas characteristic of Sauvignon Blanc wines in the appellation. It is an important identification point for Pouilly-Fumé producers and a source of great pride for them. In terms of aromas, Pouilly-Fumé wines are among the liveliest in France, although less pungent than the notoriously herbaceous New Zealand style.
