The Laroche family has been producing Chablis since 1850. Michel Laroche, the fifth generation, joined the family business in 1967. Convinced by the potential of the Chablis appellation, a period of great expansion began that brought the 6 hectares from 1967 to 130 hectares today. Since the 1980s, Michel Laroche has followed developments in the south of France. In 1995 he bought the Mas la Chevalière estate, just outside Béziers, where he planted 45 hectares of top vineyards.
The diversity in the region's terroir, climate and grape variety allows it to produce a wide selection of wines, ranging from refreshing aperitif wines to rich, well-balanced wines that can be aged for ten years and more.
The energetic Michel Laroche leads an impressive company, based on Chablis. Already in 1850 Jean-Victor Laroche bought the first vineyards. After taking office in 1967, Michel Laroche really put the family business on the map. He started with 6 hectares, now there are 130. Laroche has placed a strong emphasis on quality in the vineyard, for excellent wines, from municipal wine to Grand Cru .
He put the dots on the i by being one of the first in France to fully opt for the screw cap, even for several Grands Crus. This characterizes the dynamism of Michel Laroche and his special domain.
From Chablis, Chile was a logical step for Michel Laroche, after the Languedoc –with Mas la Chevalière–. Laroche now owns 47 hectares of vineyards in Chile. With his winemakers he can travel to Chile in the spring during the harvest, and make wines in which the knowledge of the Old World is applied.
Each Grape comes from the region where it fits best: Chardonnay from cool Casablanca, Pinot Noir from equally cool Leyda, Cabernet Sauvignon from warm Maipo. And so on. This means that every wine – from Sauvignon Blanc to Carménère, from Pinot Noir to Cabernet Sauvignon – stands for absolute perfection, typical of the Grape and climate. Laroche can be entrusted with that like no other.
