The Torrevento company is located in the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park, the first rural park in Italy, an area dominated by the inseparable relationship between man and the environment, in a perfect fusion of tradition, human activity and nature.
Here, in the 14th century, in the "Torre del Vento" district, a Benedictine monastery was built entirely of stone; a name that will mark our history, a story that begins from afar, since 1913 , when Francesco Liantonio (grandfather of the namesake Francesco, today president of Torrevento) decided at the age of sixteen to embark on ship "Hamburg", destination New York, to to embark on happiness.
In 1923, ten years after his arrival in America, Francesco Liantonio made his small fortune thanks to an ice cream factory and with the proceeds of that hard work he returned to his beloved Puglia. Here, in Palo del Colle, he realizes his dream: production and trade of extra virgin olive oil and grape processing.
In 1948, the Liantonio family bought the old Benedictine monastery with 57 hectares of surrounding vineyards in the "Torrevento" district, at the foot of the famous Castel del Monte. Two years later, Gaetano Liantonio inherited the estate, restructured it and continued production activity by creating the Rural Winery Vinicola Torrevento.
But it was in 1989, with Francesco Liantonio (current president and CEO) that Torrevento Srl was born
Today, rural wine production is still the strength of our company. In a hard and stony area , we recover and valorize indigenous vines suitable to best express the viticultural vocation of the entire Apulian territory.
Large cellars dug into the rock of the Benedictine monastery store our wine, aged in precious oak barrels and small barriques, according to the ancient local winemaking traditions, now accompanied by the most modern winemaking techniques.
Other important dates:
- 1992 . The first line of Castel del Monte DOC Torrevento wines was born: Bianco, Rosato and Rosso
- 1995-2005. Expansion of the wine-growing area, technological innovation, expansion of the wine range, first certification (ISO 9001: 2000)
- 2005-2012. Company expansion, restructuring of the historic area for large barrels and barriques, further expansion of the wine offer, new quality certification.
