Tasting note:
Masciarelli's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is characterized by a deep ruby red color. The nose opens with intense sensations of red fruit, enriched with notes of violets and tobacco. On the palate, it is fruity and medium-bodied. This red is perfect with grilled red meats and roasts.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo di Masciarelli comes from vineyards in several municipalities in the province of Chieti.
It is produced with 100% Montepulciano grapes, harvested by hand from late September to late October. Fermentation takes place, with maceration, in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 18 - 21 days. The wine is then aged on stainless steel for 20 months before being released to the market.
Talking about Masciarelli means telling a little history of Italian winemaking. The company was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a charismatic personality, a pioneer in the rebirth of winemaking in Abruzzo and the new national wine scene, who managed to transform the two main grape varieties of the region, Trebbiano and Montepulciano, into world wines. -making famous varieties. By combining rural tradition with the improvement of indigenous vines, Masciarelli has shown how local values can be exported to the world through wine.
In just a few years, Masciarelli has achieved international success and is now one of 100 major Italian wineries. With more than 60 vineyard plots between the sea and the mountains in the 4 provinces of Abruzzo and a highly specialized staff, the company produces 2 million bottles a year, from everyday wines to fine premium versions and strictly limited editions. Villa Gemma, Iskra, Marina Cvetic, Castello di Semivicoli, Gianni Masciarelli, Linea Classica and La Botte di Gianni.
The heart of the company is in San Martino sulla Marrucina, in the province of Chieti, where the main winery is located, which can be visited daily by appointment. The complete Masciarelli experience can be lived at Castello di Semivicoli: a 17th-century castle purchased by the Masciarelli family and converted into a wine resort, rich in history and charm, is now an unparalleled reference point for international wine lovers looking for places off the coast. beaten path.
