Henri de villamont

Savigny Les Beaune

At the end of the 19th century, in the heart of Burgundy in Savigny les Beaune, a passionate and idealistic wine producer Léonce Bocquet (who owned the well-known Chateau Clos de Vougeot and part of the vineyards, at the same time) built those constructions built to allow the vinification and aging of wines from its various wineries. That is why Charles Suisse (famous architect of the time and professor at the Ecole des beaux arts) was asked to create an original and massive building. His imagination composed those buildings with the usual colors of the region, recognized by everyone as the most attractive and majestic of the wine world of Burgundy. Its construction and construction took 8 years, but changes in a way by its unique track, the face of Cote de Beaune.

After the death of Léonce Boquet, the winery has had many different owners, until the Swiss family group Schenk, one of the European leaders in the wine market and spread over the main wine countries, bought it in 1964. At that time, Henri de Villamont was founded.

Pinot Noir Burgundy

Pinot Noir grape variety

Between the foundation of the house in 1964 and 2004, Schenk has developed the activity of its Burgundian subsidiary to eventually produce more than 20 million bottles. In 2004, tired of running after this huge volume adding to the need to return the estate's jam position, the family of Schenk decided to abandon its bargaining activity.

This decision was followed very quickly by an important policy of technical investments: the winery has been completely renovated and redesigned to offer the best oenological tools, with high performance and efficiency.

To follow this new quality vision, Pierre Jhean has become the new director of the place and the winemaker who is still responsible for the management of the association today. This "and" takes on its full meaning by looking closely at the roots of this pure Burgundian product. Pierre is an oenologist from Meursault where his family runs an estate. His technical skill naturally influenced the evolution of the estate

All these commercial, technical and quality changes have led to a decrease in the estate's production: 20 million bottles in 2004 to 350,000 today. They all come from the great Burgundy: Cote Maconnaise to Chablis.

WINES

Henri De Villamont now offers a full range of great Burgundy wines, some of which come from the estates of the house. 10 ha planted with pinot noir and chardonnay:

Savigny les Beaune "the Village" Monopole white and red

Savigny 1er cru "Clos des Guettes" white and red

Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle Musigny 1er cru “Les Chatelots”

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru “les Feusselottes”

Chambolle Musigny 1er cru “Les Baudes”

Chambolle Musigny 1er cru “Currants”

Grands Echezeaux Grand cru: half a hectare.

All are harvested exclusively by hand.

The result of a sustainable agricultural policy applied to the entire vineyard, of vinification that respects the quality of the grapes and is adapted to each terroir, this direct production serves as a reference for the purchase of grapes from carefully selected winegrowers.

The same care is given to each appellation, with the aim of choosing excellent raw materials that then produce great wines. A control of the vines by the technical team and sustainability in the supply contracts make it possible to produce wines of a quality identical to those produced on the properties of the house. Emphasis is placed on the constant quest to express the best of each climate.

Each year, the wines are aged with care in traditional 228-litre Burgundy barrels, in the house's historic cellars.

These wines are aged with the utmost care in vaulted cellars for 6 to 18 months. The barrels come exclusively from French oak forests with an appropriate proportion of new barrels. Subsequently, every effort is made to preserve the authenticity and intrinsic qualities of the wines.

Here, too, the work of the oenologist takes on its full meaning. His knowledge of the vintage combined with the exploration of the terroir allows him to choose the essence of oak, the artisan cooper and the roasting, which will highlight the wine in the making

These could be the characteristics of the Henri de Villamont house. Vinify, produce, mature and offer wines of great finesse that combine respect for the terroir and modernity. Pierre Jhean is committed to combining the balance and finesse of the Burgundian climates to get the best out of them.
