Chateau Poujeaux

Chateau Poujeaux

Chateau Poujeaux first appears in 1806, but Terre de Poujeaux, located in Moulis-en-Médoc, has been around since the Middle Ages. At that time it belonged to Latour Saint Mambert, now Chateau Latour, 1er Grand Cru Class é, Pauillac. In the 19th century, the estate produced its first wines and became truly independent.

Previously divided into three entities, it was only at the end of the 20th century and thanks to the Theil family that the structure and size of Poujeaux were restored. The estate regained its historic shape in 1956, united with 100 hectares of which 70 hectares are under vines. In 2008, the estate was acquired by the Cuvelier family, who already owned the famous Clos Fourtet, 1er Grand Cru Class é, Saint-Émilion.

Chateau Poujeaux is located on the magnificent gravel slopes of Grand-Poujeaux, a continuous piece of land northeast of Moulis. Cabernet Sauvignon (50 % ) and Merlot (40 % ), the most famous grape varieties of the Médoc, are planted alongside Petit Verdot (5 % ) and Cabernet Franc (5 % ). The soil types and grape varieties are perfectly matched, resulting in rich, elegant wines.

The roundness and charm of Merlot is offset by the tension and energy of Cabernet Sauvignon . Although Petit Verdot is only a small part of the blend, it brings a powerful structure and a rich aromatic palate. Finally, Cabernet Franc offers additional complexity. Rigor and vigilance are the cornerstones in a constant search for the optimal expression of this precious terroir.

Won over by the quality of the wines and the recognition of the terroir's potential, the Cuvelier family has added a decidedly modern touch to Poujeaux, which has earned it fame to make it one of Bordeaux's best-loved wines.

Today, Matthieu Cuvelier and Christophe Labenne manage Château Poujeaux together with enthusiasm and a determination to perpetuate and pass on the family and team spirit of Château Poujeaux. The vineyard and winery teams follow the technical advice of Stéphane Derenoncourt, driven by passion and experience
