Bosman Wines
8 GENERATIONS
The Bosman family have been wine growers in Wellington for 8 generations, with their proud heritage providing the foundation from which innovation and sustainability are a natural progression.
1707 Legacy
The very first Bosman to arrive at the Cape of Good Hope was Hermanus Lambertus Bosman in 1707. He became the “sieket rooster” (caretaker) for the Drakenstein community, beginning a tradition of care that has been passed down from generation to generation. The family crest contains the motto: faith, hope and love; and it is these words that inspire the family in the work they do in the community.
Legacy 1810
The Groenfontein farm, in Wellington (about an hour's drive from Cape Town), was given to the French Huguenot Philip Drouin in 1699. It passed through different owners: the Malan family, who married into the Bosman family and bought it in 1810.
Legacy 1957
The Bosman family produced wine on the estate until 1957, when the family turned to their wine farm and propagated cuttings (or “stokkies”) for the Cape wine industry.
Legacy 2007
In 2007, the 8th generation Petrus Bosman returned to the long-cherished family dream and released the first wines from their recently renovated 270-year-old cellar. Today, Hermanus Bosman's descendants are the proud custodians of his legacy, dedicated to responsible, handcrafted winemaking.
Bosman Family Vineyards
Bosman Family Vineyards is not just a wine producer. The cellar is part of Bosman Adama , an organization that also includes a plant breeding facility, which plays a major role in propagating new, healthy vines; and a wine farm that supplies stokkies (grafted cuttings) to grape farmers across the country. That is why we can trace our wines back to the mother plant in an uninterrupted chain of quality and care.
But this also means that there is plenty of work all year round for everyone on the farm, from the nursery to the vineyards and the cellar. To maintain this momentum, we must invest in people and their potential, focusing on building a cohesive, sustainable community so that everyone can thrive and create a valuable legacy together.
