THE FAMILY
The Lequio family owns the Prinsi Winery, located in Neive – Piedmont, locally known as Langa (in the Barbaresco growing area).
The family has been running the company for three generations; Daniele's grandfather Ottavio started bottling his own grapes in the late 1940s.
Franco, the son of Ottavio (Daniele's father), always cherished a special bond with the land, and in 1967 – when he had just turned 16 – he joined the family business and decided to devote himself entirely to winemaking.
After many years of working with the valuable help of his wife Silvana, together they redefined the course of the winery: putting a lot of time and attention into the actual cultivation of the grapes – which they consider the only starting point to produce great wines. to make. wines and continuing their education, acquiring an in-depth knowledge of soils and grapes.
In 1999, Franco and Silvana's son, Daniele, also started working at the winery, having just completed his studies as a certified agronomist.
Daniele is a young farmer who is passionate about his work and the Langhe region he grew up in; completely convinced of the great results that his grapes can show.
His ultimate goal is to create wines to remember.
Today, as in the past, this enthusiastically dedicated family seeks to maintain the strong bond with their territory and to convey this unique character to their wines. They have managed to establish their wines well on the international market and create a well-developed trade network with several European and overseas countries.
THE BASEMENT
A wine is the ultimate expression of a grape variety with respect to the area where it was grown.
The wine reflects the same work ethic and philosophy as we go through the various processes in the wine cellar – our aim is to preserve the natural essence of the original grape.
Our basement is the specific place where all this takes place.
The cellar is divided into four parts. It was redesigned in the 1970s with a new design concept aimed at better organizing and simplifying the workflow.
During the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and destemmed. The must then ferments in stainless steel tanks in a separate room.
After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the younger wines, which do not require a long aging period, remain in stainless steel barrels, while the Barbera d'Alba and Nebbiolo grapes intended for Barbaresco production are properly matured in wooden barrels and barrels.
The thick walls of the refinement room, which is 100 years old, are a perfect example of natural air conditioning – ideal for our wines.
Barriques and wooden barrels also have their own specific area. The main reason is to allow these wines to gradually improve and express their best qualities. We also have an area completely dedicated to storage and bottling.
Daniele takes care of the winemaking and sales, while his mother Silvana takes care of the winery's hospitality.
THE VINEYARDS
The wine estate extends over 25 hectares.
The majority of our vineyards are dedicated to Nebbiolo for our Barbaresco DOCG wines.
They cover four key “early growth” areas within the borough of Neive; these are areas where the soil texture and prime location allow us to grow top quality grapes.
They are:
- Gaia principle
- Gallina
- Fausoni
- Basarin
Franco oversees the agronomic part and, together with his wife Silvana and the help of reliable employees, coordinates all the necessary steps to achieve the best results.
